Baltic dry index

Hi All,
This is my first post. I decided to read all of the course material first before coming back and going through the webinars.

I am finding the webinars incredibly valuable as a learning tool for a whole variety of reasons. My partner and i are now up to date with listening to the webinars and are hoping to jump ahead with the submssion of the assignments and completing the course over the next thre months. Maybe a bit ambitious but the last few weeks of the goal setting sessions has really helped galvanise us and be very specific about time frames of goals.

Loving the course Steve - some of your best work! Hope the concussion is wearing off. Indoorcricket is not supposed to be an extreme sport!!

As an aside was wondering if anyone uses the Baltic Dry index as an indicator for their investing. I had a very interesting conversation last night with a guy who "retired" at 40. He said that this was the single most important factor for when / if he invested. ( this was the first time i had ever heard of it and i have been reading up this morning )Although he has property investments he stated that he would not like to be in the position of being reliant on them for an income because he has so little control over them. I found this to be a curious comment from someone who had seemingly achieved so much financial success.

Would be good to know anyones thoughts on the BDI

Cheers,

Richard

Hi Richard,

I found your post interesting as I am personally trying learn a bit about the Baltic Dry index after reading a current  blog from Robert Kiyosaki.

He wrote that he does not like the outlook for Australia's economy and believes it could lead Aus into a recession because of the BDI  data which measures raw material transported by sea as Australia ship raw material and China ship refined manufactured products via containers which is measured by the Harpex Index.

So I am trying to get an understanding as to what this means and why he believes this could be bad for Aus.

Cheers,

Scott

Thanks Richard & Scott, this is first time I heard about BDI. Will check it up and see it's relationship to Australia's economy
