March 2013 Intake

Hi,

I thought I would make my first post and try and touch base with all those signed up for the March 2013 Property Apprenticeship course.

How is everyone going with the course material? Have you made a start or just waiting until the official start date?   Ive read through the materials but have not completed any modules (I dont even know where the current assessments are... so it limits my progress. ha)

Hoping I can get away from work to attend the Melbourne introduction.

Its funny because after the initial seminar I was so pumped for the course and signed up straight away. Then i read everything in one go. Now I find myself in a lull and I hope it will pick up again once everyone is on the same page.  I actually have the ball rolling on my first IP and I didnt apply anything i read from the course notes.  Im thinking this is my problem area :)

See everyone soon and good luck!

Hi there. Just thought I'd say welcome to the course. I'm up to Session 31 and every session has been amazing. So enjoy it!
I find I'm having conversations with ppl about investing that I could never have had 6 months ago! You'll learn so much - bit by bit.

Great post
I'm from the Jun-12 intake or is that July?
Off the back of the MEGA 3-day conference
And I think most started Jan or beginning of 2012?
So keep coming back
Upto Session 25
Everything has lived up to expectation
Enjoying it
The pratical parts - easy to avoid - but are the most valuable - to me anyway
Good luck

I'm also from the June-12 intake, signing up immediately as a result of the excitement from the course. I've looked through the materials and pleased to say it all still excites me. I've read and answered questions in module one and it's only been since looking for the assessment task that I've discovered this blog site.
I'm yet to find where the webinar is for module 1 (although I've found the audio and ebook links).
I guess I need to play around with this web site to really get the hang of it. I KNOW that to get the most out of the course, I'm going to have to be actively engaged in ALL aspects and apply as much as can along the way. So here's to a succesful and applied investment (in knoweldge and hopefully skill)
Good luck all you other fellow 'Apprentices'.

Hi,

I am looking forward to starting and very slowly starting to build momentum.
Looking forward to the intro session in a few weeks.

Although received course notes back in November 2012. Just dedicated the time to sit down and start. Also, going to employ the slow and steady approach to keep the momentum going. Looking forward to meeting fellow students at the Melbourne orientation next Saturday.

I'm relieved to read that there's a few people going to the Melbourne orientation.  I haven't received any comms regarding this for a few weeks and wondered if it was still on?   Early morning flights are booked - hope the Jetstar flight schedule gods are on my side and looking forward to learning a lot, and becoming inspired tomorrow.

Did you get to the induction in Melbourne?

ATEB

Hi all,

So I just attended the Induction in melbourne and have had some major light bulb moments.
Particularly about my level competency as an investor I found I was making some major mistakes.
The biggest mistake I have been making is not taking on the role of being the head of the managment of my investment.
I have been giving it all to someone else ( my property manager ) and not really caring what happens to is as long as rent comes in.

The problem with that is that I am relying on the market and not taking charge of my investment goals.
The consequence of that is that I may have missed out on some opportunities and in fact I wouldn't have a clue as I am not sure
what my return on investment at this point in time is.

Prior to beginning this course I didn't know the questions to ask pretty much put my head in the sand because I didn't know what
questions I could ask as an active investor.  I was interested in my investment but I didn't have the knowledge to ask the right
questions.

After last weekends induction in Melbourne, I have been in contact with my Agent and organised a meeting and inspection of my
property here in melbourne.  With the knowledge I have recieved on the weekend from Steve, I will organising my rent to collected on
a weekly basis and also discussing strategies to have the rent on the property increased.

My head is swimming with so many things that I have not been doing that I could be to ensure that I get the most out of the property and if it
is in line with the financial goals.

I am looking forward to taking more action in the the sessions to come.

Cheers.

Elenor.

Im so disappointed that I could not make the induction. I wish I could have met other people from our intake as I believe networking is the most valuable benefit to be gained from this type of product.  Hopefully we can still come together on these forums and future seminars.

Im finding it hard to motivate myself with the assignments, particularly how the reading material doesnt really prepare you well for the questions.  Its really about researching the answers yourself.

I just settled on my first investment property. Its strange because even though I had read a few chapters of the course and attended a seminar I knew it was not the best investment....   but I bought it anyway. The mind is a strange beast thats for sure. I guess I am in the hands of the market now.  Maybe when i reach the end of the course I will reassess my investment with more skillful eyes and make a decision whether to get rid of it. Hopefully it wont be too late.

Looking forward to many more discussions on these forums and cant wait to read about everyones investing stories.

Regards

Adam

Hi Adam,

How are things with your new IP?  I also started on the March intake and am finding out that I have been rather fatalistic in my investing of my first property back in April 2009.

The first module has been an absolute mind shift for and now I am in the process of re-evaluating my financial position and planning my goals a lot more thoroughly rather than leaving it to chance as I have been.

I am at the Management out of the four cycles.

Keep going its worth and take your time is all I can say :)

Cheers Elenor.

Its interesting to come back to the posts and see updates
I'm now at Session 40 in line with the Webinars
"Plumb90" I hope you've now found where things are
I know the site "changed" at one point but its a better set up now and works well (in my humble opinion)
I believe the trick is to keep going, learn, apply and do it again - keep going, learn more; apply the more learnings
That way we move up the Proficiency pyramid
My goal is to get to the top!
All the best

Hi everyone

As someone from the first intake, it is interesting to read others' posts as we are all in the same boat! I am up to speed with the course and at times get frustrated that I can't put it into action immediately, then I tend to lose motivation until I bring it all back together again. The course has given me confidence and a more methodical approach to my investing (I know a little more what I am looking for now!). I feel the course brings everything together a little bit more in Module 3 (although don't rush into Module 3 as you will miss important info along the way - the course builds your knowledge rather than being a course where you can read a session in isolation and assume you know everything about that topic).

I also get motivation from my monthly investor meetings. Investor meetings can be found at propertymeeting.com.au or there may be other meetings organised in your area.

All the best, it is great to see what others are doing in their investing!
