Investing in US Property

Hi,

I was hoping that someone with some recent US property experience might be able to point me in the right direction.

Im interested in getting into the US market, and yes, I realise I have missed the opportunity to attend Steves USA Property Tour, as well as his US property managed fund.  I know the window is closing but I still feel there might be some opportunity to be had.

I recently attended a 21st Century Academy Financial Summit and they had their US property team there. I was super keen on the day but I have since googled their site (and founder Jamie McIntrye) and have found some worrying information which has me concerned. Are these guys legitimate, and if not, are there any reputable companies that anyone has dealt with?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can share some advice.

Regards

Adam

If you haven't already, you could also put up a post on PropertyInvesting.com as there may be people there who went on it. I know a couple of people who did but they are not doing this course...

HI Adam
Research, research and more research.
Don't rush in cause if it goes wrong, it is a long way and nigh impossible to extract your dough once it's been sent o'seas.
You just can't pop into a solicitor's office to recover your money, like you an here.
Steve will be opening the US fund this August to existing members and if under subscribed to community members of P I .com.
I met a couple of guys at STeve's Mega Conference last year who impressed me with what they have been doing in Texas.
If I can locate their details I will send them to you.

Hi Adam, I agree with Les - research a lot. Google, read, etc. I read up on it about six or more months ago - which was long enough after the whole popularity of it to be able to find a lot of information, and feedback on web discussion sites on people's experiences. I decided it was not for me as I am not up to a lot of travel and I would find it all too stressful and complicated.  But that's just me, for people with a lot of energy, it could be good.

From my research, it was clear that, I guess as with any investment area, that some people had been very badly burnt and some people had done very well. You have to do enough research to check the places on the ground and learn a lot about the laws, taxation, find good managers, etc. one of the issues on the fora was the transfer of money - it can be very expensive or very cheap - you have to find out  the different methods. I found reference to all this stuff on various fora sites.

like Steve says, in particular in the sessions coming up to and including 28, where he starts doing number crunching, it is very important to not let the emotions drive the process, but to focus on numbers and do due diligence enough and thoroughly. Despite not having an easy relationship with numbers, i really appreciate this information that he issharing as it helps get focussed on being more objective, which is great, and just what we need when getting excited sbout investments.  Keep learning, and good luck.
