Accommodation for 3 day conference

Hi everyone, I am heading down to Melbourne from north qld for  the 3 day conference and haven't really been to Melbourne before. Was hoping someone can give me an idea for accommodation to stay at preferably walking distance to the conference. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance

Steve.

anywhere in the city is fine as the conference area is really easy to get to, you could even go out a bit form the city just make sure you are on a train line or a tram that takes you to the city centre area, it's much easier to get around than Sydney (personal opinion)

I was going to ask the same question Steve.  where are other people staying?  I am just looking for somewhere cheap and within 20 mins walking distance.  Don't want to bother with trams or public transport.

my first conference was Melbourne 2010...I didn't know what to expect, thought I'd give it a go, and went as cheap as anyone could go, stayed at the Urban Central backpackers up the road in a dorm room (I did say cheap).  It was a 10 minute walk to the conference centre.  I'd only consider staying there again if anyone was open to say sharing a family room (I was a bit over people coming in at 3am!)..... or a room at another place.   Like others, I'm trying to keep costs down, and accommodation is the most cost of traveling.   Is anyone open to sharing accommodation ?

Hi Tim

This is the first time I'm venturing into the forum section of this website and should have done so a lot earlier. I realise by now you have clearly sorted out your accommodation, but if not, I have booked 3 nights at the Medina Executive Northbank Hotel in a one bedroom apartment and given that the wife and kids aren't joining me on the trip, I have a spare single that you could split the cost with me for. Call me lastminute.com if you will, but thought I'd let you know just in case.

See you at the big event
Cheers

Hi,

Hotel Enterprize is pretty cheap. I've booked a room for $88 and it's only 15 min walk to the convention centre.

I have decided to stay at the Hotel Enterprize too.  The Claremont guest house in South Yarra looked good but public transport was going to be a headache from there.   Agree with jason that the not1night.com.au gives a cheaper price.
